24 year old, Mlamuli Mkhwanazi hails from Empembeni (Empangeni) Natal. After studying art at John Ross College, he enrolled at the Creative Arts College for graphic and web design – and simultaneously established himself at the BAT Centre – a hub of creativity in KZN. There, he learnt to make life-size sculptures and work in other mediums under the mentorship of Clive Sithole and Lungelo Gumede. “I examine African body figures/faces and their lives – using different mediums and techniques including charcoal, mono prints, and watercolour paint.” Says Mlamuli.

His work has been shown since 2010 at a number of significant exhibitions across the country. And featured amongst the top 100 in the Barclays L’Atelier Exhibition. He’s also completed various commissions including portaits of local politicians, musicians and performers. In 2012 he completed a public art project for the ANC.
